Arsenal are weighing up a move for another Real Madrid player, in addition to Vinicius Jr, according to reports.
Speaking on Charles Watts’ Inside Arsenal YouTube channel, journalist Alex Kirkland revealed that he has been informed that the Gunners are keen on one of the Brazilian’s teammates:
“Talking to my ESPN colleague Rodra, who’s excellent, very well connected at the club – breaks all kinds of stories. He was saying to me that he’d been told that Arsenal were also interested in another unnamed Real Madrid player. Now, I don’t know who, but Vini wasn’t the only one.”
Who could Arsenal be interested in signing?
Mikel Arteta’s side had been heavily linked with defender Victor Valdepenas but he has subsequently signed for Serie A side Fiorentina.
Arda Guler, Brahim Diaz and Endrick are other players who have been mentioned as potential targets over the last year or so, and there are doubts over where the trio feature in Jose Mourinho’s plans.
Rodrygo has also been suggested as a target in the past, but the Brazilian is currently sidelined with a serious knee injury.
What is the latest on the club’s pursuit of Vinicius?
Talks between the player’s camp and Real Madrid are said to be at a standstill. The main stumbling block appears to be a demand to increase his percentage of image rights. He currently owns 50%, but he wants that to go up to 80%, with Real retaining only a 20% share.
There are also reports that Vinicius is holding out for a sizeable signing-on bonus that Real are not willing to pay. Arsenal are seemingly prepared to cede to his demands, although it remains to be seen how things will play out.
More discussions are expected to be held between the player’s representatives, Roc Nation, and Real over the coming days and weeks, but if a resolution can’t be found, the La Liga giants would have to seriously consider a sale before the transfer window closes.
